Pronunciation: mistəmiskw-ʃi:pu:Pronunciation
Translation: Giant Beaver River
Official Name: South Shipiskan River
Feature: river (section)

Explanation:
A long time ago, two giant beavers were killed on the river by a shaman. They were much bigger than seals. If these beavers had not been killed, there would have been many more of that kind. This happened in the 1890s, when Joachim Ashini (1890-1972) was still a little boy. The name applies to the lower section of the river, below the junction, before it empties into Shipiskan Lake. The river includes the southwestern branch only, the northern branch bearing another name.
