Explanation:
Named after the late Edward Rich (known among the Innu as Manitesh) who was employed by the HBC post at Sheshatshiu from 1869 to 1876. He spent summers salmon-fishing for the Company and winters hunting at the mouth of a brook flowing into Churchill River. The old name for this brook was Ukaumau-shipiss which was named after Ukaumau-nipi ('Mother Lake') from which it flows.
