Explanation:
Long portage used by the Innu when going inland. The name applies only to the lower section, between the Naskapi River-Red Wine River junction and lake Kauauiekamat (no 615). The same portage was used when descending to the junction, at which point it was then called Matapeshtakan ('Descending Portage').
