Explanation:
Named after Natan Frieda (c.1888-1974), an Inuit man who had a house on this island. His Innu name is Katshipunasht which means 'The One Who Almost Blocks It With His Hand'. The name refers to the fact that he used to cup his hand to his ear as he was hard of hearing.
