Explanation:
Named after the late Tuma who used to fish at this lake often, in the winter. This Tuma was Shushep Tuma's father, a man originally from Mingan, who came to Labrador with his parents as a child. Tuma's father was called Nutamikuesh ('Pudgy Face') or Maniteu ('Stranger') and his mother was Katinen or Penenu. The Sheshatshiu Innu called her Ekuanitshishkueu ('Woman from Mingan').
